Sugar Free Kids Camp Right In Our Back Yard

The Purpose of the
American Diabetes
Association’s Sugar Free Kids retreat program
in Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland
is to provide a safe recreational experience while learning
how to manage their diabetes. The entire family is welcome. Through
the expert guidance of volunteers, children are encouraged to
develop their skills for managing their diabetes and enjoy the
scenic setting of Camp Arrowhead. Since 1994, Sugar Free Kids and
the American Diabetes
Association (ADA)
have been providing children with special memories that will last a
lifetime. Our traditional camp retreat is held in the fall, located
at Camp Arrowhead, a picturesque wooded setting along the Rehoboth
Bay. Your experience consists of rustic log cabin overnight
accommodations, with many outdoor activities including: swimming,
boating, rock climbing, and archery. Our untraditional hotel retreat
is held in the spring in Ocean City, MD creating a getaway weekend
in an ocean scenic atmosphere. Sponsors are need any additional
donations to support the retreats would be greatly appreciated

Management is provided by competent and bonded
volunteers, certified diabetes educators, physicians, nurses, and
parents of children with diabetes. These volunteers strive to make
the “home away from home” experience one
that teaches new techniques for good diabetes control through diet,
exercise, insulin and blood sugar monitoring. The skills learned may
lead to better control when the child returns home.
Our next
Camp will be held on September 10th -12th 2010, if
you are interested in registering or contributing to the program

children and adults to share day to day challenges and triumphs of
managing diabetes and to connect with families who have had a child
diagnosed with diabetes. The volunteers (Certified Diabetes

offer children and parents seminars that discuss topics such as:
